My path of devotion began at age 17, when I discovered Yoga. Through the returning of Truth I discovered within myself, I began to awaken to the Truth beneath the masks of the world – and I knew I had a role to play in helping this human world heal, to remember it's true nature, from the inside out and the outside in.
In 2008 I devoted myself to multiple studies and practices in wellness arts, earth arts, community arts, mystic arts, and performing arts. Which was really a devotion to Aliveness, to the journey of Becoming, whole, true, through a deepening relationship with the mystery, to the earth, to my community, and to myself. This path has lead me to become a unique player for the healing of the world. "A master of many is better than a master of one..."
Not only am I a photographer, but I am also an embodied liberation mentor, a yoga and meditation teacher, a folk herbalist, a professional permaculturalist and garden designer, a community leader, weaver, and keeper, a visionary, a healer, a tantrika, a feeler, an artist, a writer, a graphic designer, a dancer, a singer, a mystic, a student, always.
Ultimately, I am here for this Great Remembering (that is also the Great Awakening), taking up my right, many-hatted roles in order to steward a revolution, an evolution, within self and culture. We revolve to evolve.
By tracking cycles and patterns, through the seasons and stars, I weave my listening into teachings, creative projects, and community and land stewardship. Through cultivated practice, intuition, and the wisdom gained from my studies and life experience, I guide and inspire others to experience more of themselves, simply by sharing what's helped me to remember too.
And I do all that I do with a prayer for you to remember the medicine we each uniquely are – to remember magic and beauty, even in the seemingly mundane – to remember what it feels like to live as the fullness of life's Animacy – to remember what it means to truly Become in Beauty and live True to Essence – to remember how it feels to be a truly beautiful human in this beautiful world.
It's my personal experience in front of the lens that inspired me to get behind it.
I have always been an artist, visual and the like, and, for most of my young life I also performed on different kinds of stages: dance, theatre, gymnastics, cheering; making art of my expression was my greatest joy. The stage gave me an opportunity to hear, feel, see + experience myself – to explore the edges of who I was and who I chose to be.
In 2014, even though my attention was primarily turned towards revolution, I got into modeling as another creative outlet. Though I worked with handfuls of photographers, there was one who changed my life. My friend Jonathan. He and I would shoot once a year, for years, and over years, through these sessions, I witnessed myself grow.
You see, I used modeling as another kind of yoga mat, it became an awareness practice, a tool for self-realization, a playground for my own embodied becoming – the shoot was more than just a fun way to make art (that too though, yes.)
The whole experience from shoot to seeing the photos was a kind of medicine to me. The photo-shoots became a stage to explore myself exactly as I am, but also to explore the new edges of my liberating self-expression, and to be witnessed in my journey there. This was the medicine. I had a stage to play with my self-actualization.
I had a new mirror to see myself through. A new lens and perspective to trust that wasn't just my own, and thus see new angles of my own beauty that I'd never accepted as beautiful before. I touched new opportunities to meet, and Love myself, and to be seen in new, and forgotten, and hidden aspects of myself that I had never allowed myself to before.
Overtime I began to love myself more. Overtime I began to see the ESSENCE of who I am in it's pure unchanging nature, while simultaneously see all the ways I'd grown and matured. Overtime I could feel a deeper embodiment of who I am, a maturation in the knowing of myself within the journey itself, and in that, an integration of my own wholeness.

@kathamaroseI didn't expect to become a professional photographer.
After spending over a dozen years devoted to wellness and mystic arts, earth and collective arts, I thought my path was going to be a solid line towards coaching, teaching and revolution. However in 2021, in Costa Rica, I had the opportunity to play with a camera again with friends who wanted pictures on our week away together, both in front and behind the lens. On one of those days a couple of them paid another photographer to photograph them, but during their sessions asked me to guide them, to welcome them into their embodiment and get them into the flow. That was the moment for me that knew I had something to offer the photography world that was unique and incredibly valuable.
When I got back to the states after 6 months in the Pura Vida, I invested in a camera, and very quickly, began this adventure called True to Essence. Carried with the heart of the medicine that Jonathan gifted me, that I now get to gift to you in my own unique, refining and mystically simple creative way.
This medicine is simple, ultimately, and it is truly one of a kind; one of the most potent and rich opportunities to meet and be and see and feel yourself. Photo-shoots, all photo-shoots, my sessions and beyond, have so much more to offer than just pretty pictures ~ the whole experience is an opportunity to know and love yourself more. It is a playground for self discovery. It's art. It's medicine. It's liberation.
